Course Overview

Develop your white water paddling skills on our home runs with White Water Wednesdays for keen kayakers.

Run over a range of weeks, spaced apart, to allow you to practise and progress between each session. These three progressive coaching days on our local runs in the Lakes are aimed at paddlers who are currently paddling grade 2 and 3 white water and enjoying runs like the Eden, Lune and sections of the Leven. From the many play features on the Leven, to the pool drop rapids of the Lune and Kent, and the hidden gems on spate rivers, there's loads to have a go at. The Lake District is the perfect location to move your paddling on.

We’ll refresh the fundamentals of white water paddling, and set aims with you for your development, whether that is improving consistency on grade 3, losing the wobble and avoiding capsizing through nailing clean lines, developing your surfing, or setting up your progression to be successful on harder rapids.

With twenty years of experience white water kayaking in the Lakes, we know how to get the best river conditions, the smoothest lines and fun moves on the rapids to make the most of your time on the water. We specialise in white water kayaking, and when we’re not working, we’ll be found on the rivers and can't wait to show you our local playground. This coached series of days will develop your paddling, show you precise cutting edge techniques, and help you move your paddling up a notch so you will leave with a clear path for future development.

Who Is The Course For?

For this course we ask that you are paddling on grade 2-3 white water with a keenness to develop. You should have a good attempt at a roll most of the time, due to the pool drop nature of the majority of rapids in the area, if it doesn’t work on occasion, that's fine, and we’ll look at developing it where temperatures allow. If you are under the age of 18, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who has also booked onto the course.

Equipment Required

  • A white water specific kayak with front and rear airbags

  • Well-fitting white water helmet

Location

We’ll base the course on the rivers of the Lake District and adjoining Yorkshire Dales National Park. To make the best use of the conditions available, we’ll choose the rivers based on the water levels and forecast immediately prior to the course. We'll confirm the meeting point at least 3 days prior to the course. If you are booking accommodation, Kendal is the ideal spot to base yourself as it provides the best access to the surrounding rivers.

For this course only, a free pick up from Oxenholme train station, or transport from Ambleside is an option if required subject to availability - please confirm at time of booking.
