Course Overview

Develop your flat water paddleboarding skills with the British Canoeing Personal Performance SUP Sheltered Water Award. SUP is the fastest growing paddlesport discipline, and it's easy to see why with the ease of accessibility. While it may look easy, if you want to master all the skills, there are some simple tricks to learn.

We will spend the day developing your SUP paddling, from launching and kneeling, on to single sided paddling, moving around on the board with confidence and control, through to wide turns and tight step back turns. The Sheltered Water SUP Performance Award is the appropriate qualification to demonstrate personal competence on a SUP to go alongside a Paddlesport Leader award for leading other paddlers on journeys.

We’ll use the stunning lakes on our doorstep here in the Lake District and the locations will be chosen to make best use of the wind conditions on the day.

We’ll work with you to develop your skills and if you meet the standard for the Sheltered Water Performance Award then we’ll assess this during the training.

Prerequisites

Minimum age: 16. If you are aged under 18, you will need to be joined by a parent or legal guardian who is also paying to attend the course.
